Work and COVID 19

The last few weeks have been a bit surreal. Our life changed so quickly and just proved again that nothing can be taken for granted. No one knows when life will be back to normal and if it ever will be. I have been very quiet online in the last weeks, firstly I was recovering from covid or another virus (as in the UK you only get tested when you end up in hospital and are on deaths door) and that floored me for a few weeks. I’m only now starting to feel normal again, just left with a bit of a cough, so hopefully I’m full with antibodies now (although there is no guarantee yet that they actually make you immun). And secondly I’ve been basically glued to the television watching news report about the epidemic, shouting at it because of our politicians, who were clearly overwhelmed with the spread of the virus and completely failed to react soon enough. That caused a lot of irritation and annoyance on my side, especially when it’s obvious what needs to be done. Because of that I also did not feel like wanting to be creative or concentrate on the business. Somehow didn’t seem appropriate.....

As we are now settling into the “new” norm, which will be with us for quite a while I’m slowly starting to get back to my usual self. I actually have no problem with staying at home as I’m used to working from home anyway. I’m very lucky that I’m living in a beautiful rural location. Just looking out from the window in the morning seeing Loch Lomond in the distance cheers me up every day. I’m enjoying the beauty around me and I’m grateful that no one I know and is deer to me has been effected by the virus and let’s hope it stays this way. I’m enjoying all the little things, enjoying my home, I’m baking and cooking like never before and appreciate the much more simpler and slower life. My motto has always been to learn something out of hard times and you come out of it a better and stronger person!

Before the outbreak I have been working on including prints on other surfaces which would have involved a few other print companies. However, now I don’t think is the right time to bring other suppliers on board. Not with all the economic uncertainty, therefore I have decided to put it on the back burner for a bit and concentrate on my painting first. I’m currently working on a commission for two paintings, which are great fun and I will reveal more about it when the project is finished. After that I’m planning to concentrate on producing more original paintings and make them available for sale at some point. Keeping busy. I’m itching to go out on trips around Scotland making more photos, but at the moment I have to make do with making photos in the garden, working with my old photos and create some new prints. I will be adding new prints to the website in the next few weeks as well. So look out for that!

We’re living though hard times and while I’m missing seeing family and friends especially not knowing when I will see my family in Germany and Croatia again, I’m feeling positive that we will get through this and will come out wiser the other end and more appreciative of life. Stay Home, Stay Safe!
